Week in my life - 02/05 - 02/11

Pic #1 (top left): New gym spot for the next little bit

Pic #2 (top right): Handstand during sunset - don’t be fooled, I held it for at most 3 seconds ..

Pic #3 (bottom left): First surf lessons which went super well, was able to get up right away

Pic #4 (bottom right): New coffee shop to come to on the daily to get some deep work done

I want to start this newsletter with a quote that’s deeply resonated with me lately:

“The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step”

Lao Tzu

When I hear that quote, I think about the importance of focusing on baby steps.

Getting done the little things each day and making it an emphasis to find enjoyment in them.

Because if you enjoy each day, you can enjoy each week.

And if you can enjoy each week, you can enjoy each month, etc .. (you know where this is going)

Because if you’re not enjoying the process then are you really winning?

This is something I tweeted about the other day.

Over this last week, I found myself doing activities throughout the day for the sake of doing them.

Did I enjoy them? Sometimes, but overall not overly.

I did them so I could check them off my to-do list so I could stay disciplined and be “productive”.

I never stopped for a second and asked myself if I was genuinely enjoying what I was doing.

This is why I strongly believe that this notion of discipline has been completely exaggerated online.

There are more things to life than simply staying disciplined and consistent.

What good is it to read every day if you’re not enjoying the book?

Or working out every day and not completely immersing yourself in the workout.

You shouldn’t be doing things, solely for the sake of doing them.

You will not only absorb less but you won’t be as fulfilled and full of joy as you can be.

Surprisingly, this all boils down to authenticity.

Being yourself. Being the truest version of you.

Not just online, but to yourself when it’s just you in the mirror and nobody is watching.

You should still ensure to stay disciplined but don’t forget to enjoy what you do while staying clear on the path you’re heading.

Which brings me to my next point, clarity.

Clarity is something I’ve been dialing in on the last week or so.

A friend of mine recently shared a vision board with me which I’ve been playing around with.

I’m finally gonna complete it pretty soon and be crystal clear on my vision for each area of my life.

Not only am I focusing on goals for next year and in a few years.

But I’m also focusing on extremely long-term goals that are well into the future.

Goals that are so far away that I can barely see or conceptualize.

Goals for my 30-year-old self.

Even for my 40-year-old self.

Some goals such as the exact house I want to live in.

The kind of partner I want to have.

And the overall life I want to live.

But the irony is that when I reach that age, it’s almost guaranteed that those goals will look quite different.

Not because I failed.

I know I’ll succeed.

But the reality is that my 30-year-old self is going to have a completely different outlook on life.

Different tastes, different styles, and virtually, a completely different person.

But that’s okay.

The idea is to simply have a vision and clarity for your future self to manifest it into reality.

So don’t worry if your goals end up looking different.

It’s all a part of the process.

If you haven’t learned this yet, you will soon learn that this journey will lead you to open doors you never knew existed and walk into rooms you may think you don’t belong in.

It’s awesome. It’s fulfilling. It’s scary. It’s full of all the emotions.

As long as you remain focused, aware, and clear of the next step in front of you then there’s no doubt that you will achieve all your hopes and dreams.

And eventually, hit that 1,000 miles point :)

Much luv,

Jared
