go slow to go fast
why slowing down will 10x your progress
Hey.
Now you’re probably wondering a couple of things.
1st thing:
Why are you sending me a newsletter on a Wednesday evening?”
2nd thing:
Why is the newsletter titled “go slow to go fast?”
Let me explain.
So firstly, as you may know, I regularly send my weekly newsletters on Sunday evening.
And if you were keeping score, your Sunday night inbox was empty from me.
I’ve been caught up in a gazillion other things that my weekly journal to you slipped away from me.
And as much as I could have sent one out the day after, I intentionally waited until tonight.
Why?
Because I want to be in the zone so I can pour my heart and soul into this and make up for the no-entry on Sunday.
And tonight was the perfect time as I began my 24-hour fast.
But it’s not just any fast, it’s a water and phone fast.
Yes, you heard that correctly.
A phone fast.
In other words, a dopamine detox.
It’s well needed and I thought it would only be fitting to combine the phone fast with my water fast.
It’s only been 6 hours and I already feel the benefits.
It could be a Placebo but either way, I’m feeling great.
Very clear, and concise with a natural ability to articulate myself.
I may push the fast even later, depending on how I’m feeling.
And this Sunday, expect me to reflect my thoughts of it to you.
Moving on to the second question of why this newsletter is titled “go slow to go fast”.
I know, it’s a very paradoxical sentence but it’s quite simple.
We rarely often take a second to stop and stare at what we have in front of us.
The practice of gratitude is something that doesn’t come easy for many people, including me.
And this past week, I made a conscious effort to be more grateful for things in my life
I was at my friend’s cottage and I took some time to simply observe the beautiful scenery in front of me.
I was by the lake, listening to the birds chirping and taking Mother Nature in.
I came to a realization that the majority of us are so sucked into our phones, to the point where we’re so ungrateful for the beauty in front of us.
There’s so much to be grateful for but we’re so occupied in the material.
So occupied in the next trend.
So occupied in our businesses (very guilty).
And a lot of things we do on our phones may very well be beneficial to us.
But you need to reserve time to sit with yourself.
Sit with your thoughts (which most people can never do)
And slow down for a second.
By intentionally taking some time to slow down, you will inevitably go faster.
You will gain more clarity on your purpose and will rarely have to take a look in your rearview mirrors.
You will have so much conviction in what you’re doing because you’re not always acting on impulses.
Action is important.
It’s massive.
But sometimes you need to take a step back so you can proceed to take three steps further.
In life and especially down the entrepreneurial path, there will be numerous occasions where the only step further is taken after a step behind.
Even if it may look like you’re getting behind, it is oftentimes necessary.
The trick is to not have a permanent mindset based upon temporary conditions.
And to be completely vulnerable, this has been an internal battle I’ve been going through.
But we’re making progress and I honestly think this journal entry to you has already been massive.
That’s it for the mid-week entry.
Stay tuned for my reflections from my water + phone fast this Sunday.
Also, I will discuss some exciting things I have planned for:
The IRL U.S Tour, an 11-night road trip in an RV across the states with 5 entrepreneurs in IR (we’re nearing the 2-week mark until we hit the road, crazy!!)
Have a good night, morning, or afternoon .. whatever time you’re reading this.
And last thing ..
I appreciate you.
If you’ve read the entire way, thank you for showing up for me.
I will continue to show up for you, hoping you gain value from each weekly reflection :)
Take care.
Much luv,
Jared
