- less is more.
less is more.
why subtraction > addition
Hey.
I hope you had a great week.
This week was a busy one, to say the least for me.
Matter of fact, this next month will just be a grind.
Before all the fun happens in June (iykyk)
But in the midst of the everyday grind, I came to an important realization.
It’s that less is more.
I’m sure you may have heard of that saying before as so have I.
But have you stopped to truly internalize what that means?
Because that saying is becoming more important and prevalent in today’s society.
With social media consuming our time, energy, and attention, we often feel bombarded with distractions.
And I never thought I would be at a point in my life, being so young, where I’m seeking less as opposed to more.
I knew that this time would come, but I thought it would be more prevalent later on in my life.
I came to this realization a few days ago when I was observing my room.
I got the walls re-done in my room so it’s all very plain.
One shade of beige/white all around my room, that’s it.
I told my mom that maybe I should get some pictures or something to spice it up and add more flavor to it.
She questioned why I would want to add anything else.
“Why add more” she says.
Then she proceeded to explain to me that enough is going on in the world to want to continue to add more things to your life.
Then I had a small epiphany moment, realizing that we’re always wanting more in life.
More money, more muscles, more travels .. the list goes on.
Which is great when you look at it from an abundance perspective.
But from a gratitude perspective, why can’t we ever be satisfied with what we already have?
Why do we always need to feel that we need to add more things into our life?
Maybe we have to start subtracting.
Rather than adding more friends to your circle.
Maybe you start subtracting the ones that don’t serve you anymore.
Rather than adding healthier foods to your nutrition plan.
Maybe you subtract the unhealthy ones.
Sometimes in life, less is truly more.
And oftentimes, we have to learn that the hard way.
So I challenge you this week to start subtracting.
And by doing so, I’m gonna leave you off with one powerful quote.
People think focus means saying yes to the thing you’ve got to focus on. But that’s not what it means at all. It means saying no to the hundred other good ideas that there are.
Have a good week folks.
Much luv,
Jared
