Hey, what’s going on!
I hope you had a wonderful week.
Seriously.
I genuinely hope you went into the week with clarity and focus on what has to be done.
Because I did.
Yet I have to admit it, I’ve been struggling.
I have the clarity down.
I have the conviction down.
I have honestly many things going right for me.
But there’s one thing that I’m yet to master.
One thing that few have mastered.
And the ones that have, are light years ahead of the masses.
You want to know what it is?
It’s organizing your time efficiently.
We all have the same 24 hours in the day yet why is it that we often feel like we wish there were more hours?
I’ve touched on this before but I have to bring it back to the surface.
Because time management is something that I thought I was decent at.
But boy am I wrong.
A lot of it has to do with my environment though.
But that is still not a powerful enough force to disrupt my internal drive.
There’s this interesting paradox that a lot of entrepreneurs face.
They have all the time in the world to do work and get things done yet they are still falling victim to poor productivity.
Wouldn’t you think that having more time would translate to more work getting done?
Well, that’s just rarely ever the case.
There’s something called Parkinson’s Law which explains how the more time we have to accomplish something, the less productive we are.
A great example is in school.
Remember when you would be assigned homework to complete in a week?
And most of us (at least me) would bang it out the night before?
We would condense a week's worth of work into one night.
This same principle applies to the entrepreneur’s life.
The more time we have for a given task or project, the more time we take.
This is why not only do you have to have structure throughout your day but you have to keep yourself busy.
And also understand that we as humans are not designed to work consistently long hours.
The top 1% of people don’t work harder than the 99%.
They simply have mastered the productivity and systems game.
They are hyper-aware of where these 3 vital elements are going throughout the day.
Time
Energy
Attention
And the funny thing is that every single human on earth has those 3 things.
But the problem is that the majority of us have our vices.
Things that take up all 3 of these elements and shut down the creative genius inside all of us.
This is why it is pivotal for you to become aware of where every minute of your time is going.
There’s a very good term called “metacognition” which is essentially the ability to be aware and understand your thought process.
Rather than indulging in urges or distractions, you can observe the mind.
Observe the triggers and make conscious decisions.
By improving your metacognitive abilities, you’re able to truly hone in on what’s important.
This is where the practice of meditation becomes extremely useful.
To wrap this up, I just need to remind you that you have limited time on this earth.
This may sound like a dark thought but you never know when time is up.
When you take that last breath.
Death is actually one of the best teachers.
It turns life and time into an extremely scarce resource.
Which is the only reason why life is so precious in the first place.
“Momento mori”
It translates to “Remember we must die”.
You can interrupt that positively or negatively.
For me, that is one of my primary motivators.
To realize how not only most of my problems are so insignificant but how I have to be constantly moving with that sense of urgency.
That sense of urgency to make it happen NOW.
You’re never promised tomorrow.
So please, make each and every day count.
My challenge for you this week is to journal about where your time is going.
Be intentional.
Write down how you're going to be structuring your week and each day.
I did this exercise today and I’ve already experienced way more clarity on how I’m going to tackle this week from a time management perspective.
Anyway, I wish you the very best for this week.
Lol this newsletter took a twist and got very deep real quick.
Hope you enjoyed this one.
It was a little bit different from other ones but it all came from the heart.
And last remember for ya ..
It’s okay for the days to go by quickly, as long as you’re having fun.
And that definition of “fun” is up to you to decide.
Stay blessed.
Much luv,
Jared
