What's this next chapter of your life called?

One question that somebody asked me the other day was:
“What’s this next chapter of your life called?”
It really got me thinking.
I’ve mentioned in past newsletters how I always like to operate in seasons.
Depending on where I am, how I feel, and who I am with tends to dictate what season I find myself in.
The season I’m in is always congruent with the next chapter of my life.
And this next chapter of my life for me is called “keep going”.
Simple right? Yet so profound.
Why is it called “keep going” Jared?
Well, the reason why I called it that was because I don’t need to overcomplicate things.
I already spent the months on end, brainstorming and getting caught up in my head.
I was always fixated on a concrete plan.
A concrete goal.
A well thought out path that would lead me to the promised land.
I’ve done enough trial and error with that to realize, all I need to do is keep going.
As long as I am following my intuition and constantly aware of where I am at each moment, I will inevitably get there.
I just need to continue doing what I was doing before.
The actions that got me here will be the same actions that will get me to the next stage.
However, most people will disagree with that.
They believe you have to constantly innovate and try new things.
Which is true to some degree.
But the fundamentals, always remain the same.
I used to play basketball a lot when I was younger.
And I always wanted to progress and learn moves.
Learn new skills.
And become a better player.
But I always knew that I had to continue spending 80% of my time on the fundamentals.
In life, it is no different.
The 80/20 rule will always apply.
20% of what I am already doing is leading to 80% of my results.
I don’t need new ideas.
I just need to keep implementing and iterating the 20%.
There’s a new mental framework I started to incorporate.
It’s called Sturgeon’s Law.
It challenges the notion of the 80/20 principle by going even more extreme to essentially implement a 90/10 principle.
The law literally states word for word “90% of everything is crap”
When I heard that, I didn’t question if I believed it or not.
I just used it as a mental framework to soak up my consciousness and apply it to my life.
"If 90% of everything is crap then you need wayyy more action Jared”.
That’s more or less what I told myself.
So to sum things up, I need to focus on the 20% of things that got me to where I am today.
But also focus on volume and moving the needle activities because 90% of everything I do is crap.
And this all parlays into my new chapter now which is called “keep going”.
Keep going, keep putting one step ahead of another, and as my last newsletter ended.. you’ll eventually hit 1,000 miles.
Let’s have a week.
Oh, and if you were like me and didn’t have a Valentine to spend Valentines Day with then I’m here to spread the love :)
Much luv,
Jared
